Patrick Schröder is a senior research fellow in the Environment and Society Programme at Chatham House. He specialises in research on the global transition to an inclusive circular economy with a specific focus on collaborative opportunities between key countries, closing the investment gap and building an evidence base for trade in the circular economy. He was previously a research fellow at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex and a key expert of the EU SWITCH-Asia Network Facility.

In the ever-evolving landscape of global geopolitics, worsening climate change impacts and the need to accelerate the clean energy transition, the contest for critical raw materials and renewable energy technologies has emerged as a focal point of contention between the European Union (EU) and China. The upcoming EU-China summit in Beijing on 5 and 6 December offers an opportunity to address their disagreements.
