Tan Hwee Koon

Tan Hwee Koon is a Singapore-based art consultant, curator and writer with over 20 years of experience working across museums (public and private), media art festivals and art galleries in Asia. She was formerly Artistic Director of The Private Museum, Singapore; Manager (Curatorial) at National Gallery Singapore; Artistic Director at Asia Art Center in Beijing’s 798 Art District; Singapore Coordinator for Brisbane-based Multimedia Art Asia Pacific; Gallery Manager and Publicist for Plum Blossoms Gallery (Singapore-Hong Kong); and Adjunct Lecturer at the Centre for Transcultural Studies, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore.Hwee Koon is a versatile curator with a sustained focus on contemporary Chinese art, ink practices and sculpture. She holds an MA in History of Art and Archaeology from SOAS, University of London, and a master’s degree in Comparative Culture from Sophia University, Tokyo. Her academic training integrates Chinese art history, sociology and modern Chinese history as an interdisciplinary framework for understanding contemporary Chinese art and culture. Her research interests include modern and contemporary East and Southeast Asian art, migration and diaspora, transnationalism and transnational identities, and Buddhist art museology.
